General / Gastro Surgery
The General Surgery and Gastroenterology surgical treatment is the abdominal organs, such as the intestines and including the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland (depending on the availability of head and neck surgery specialists) and hernias. In Australia, general surgeons are also responsible for breast care, including the surgical treatment of breast cancer.
The Section of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for our patients and community through excellence in surgical care, surgical research and surgical education. We offer comprehensive care for patients requiring surgical treatment for ailments of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, abdominal hernias and endocrine disorders.
Each of our faculty have received advanced fellowship training in areas, including colon and rectal surgery, minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery and bariatric surgery, and are recognized nationally for outstanding clinical care, research and innovation in their fields. Our patients receive a highly specialized assessment.
